WHPC Spiritual Formation Devotionals Week 22

Week  22           Day 1
Spiritual Formation Devotionals

Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?    Psalm 77:9

Prayer - Constant and redeeming God, your gracious love and steadfast compassion never fail. On this day teach me to see you at work around me. Help me to wait for your whisper of hope. Allow me to be patient as I wait for your will. And in such waiting, may my graciousness and compassion for others increase. Amen.

Week 22           Day 2
Spiritual Formation Devotionals

How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity.              Psalm 133:1

Prayer - God of all, you have commanded us to love and to live together as one.But it is hard for us; our efforts at reconciliation and unity fall flat. We abandon love, settling for uneasy tolerance and unspoken resistance. Renew us, O God,in your holy image. Help us to live as Jesus did: having compassion, making peace, and breaking down the barriers between us. In his name we pray. Amen.

Week 22          Day 3
Spiritual Formation Devotionals

Your way was through the sea, your path, through the mighty waters; yet your footprints were unseen.                 Psalm 77:19

Prayer - God of glory, whether I am just waking up, or about to fall asleep, you keep my life.  Whatever happens today, may I realize that you are the steady presence to keep my feet on solid ground.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Week 22            Day 4
Spiritual Formation Devotionals

"When they were few in number, of little account, and strangers in it, wandering from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people, he allowed no one to oppress them; he rebuked kings on their account.... "                Psalm 105:12-14

Prayer - Father God, just as you in your divine will and plan choose one man Abraham and his descendants to be your Chosen People under the New Covenant in Jesus Christ. Just as Abraham and Sarah in her old age and barrenness were promised a biological heir and descendants more numerous than the stars; just as your infant people were promised a land that at the time was occupied by fierce enemy nations and were promised your  love and protection from these enemies; so Almighty God , have you promised each of us who believe in your son, Jesus, as we wander in this alien, enemy subjected world, your protection, guidance, love and final arrival in the "Promised Land" tp spend eternity in your presence. We can but kneel, in awe and praise and thanksgiving. In the name of Him who made all this possible, Jesus Christ,  Amen.

Week 22            Day 5
Spiritual Formation Devotionals

"The Lord is good to all.; he has compassion on all he has made."           Psalm 145:9

Prayer - Father God, fill my heart with the same compassion you have for all of your creation. Help me see with your eyes where people are hurting, help me hear with your ears the cries of the suffering world. And Lord, give me the same love for others that you have lavished on me. Open my arms to cradle and comfort when no words come from my lips. Amen.
