Unshakeable Hope - "Jesus Is Praying For You"
God’s promise for this session – “Jesus is at the right hand of God & is also interceding for us” – Rom 8:34
Life is filled with storms. But ponder this promise: right now…at this very moment…in the midst of your storm…Jesus is interceding for you. The King of the universe is speaking up on your behalf. He is calling out to the heavenly Father for you. He is urging the Holy Spirit to help you. You do not fight the wind and waves alone, for you have the mightiest Price and holiest advocate standing up for you. Of course, you might object.
If Jesus were really praying for you, then why did the storm even happen in the first place. Wouldn’t an interceding Jesus guarantee a storm-free life? Yes…but that storm-free existence will be inaugurated in the eternal kingdom. In the meantime, since this is a fallen world full of doubt and fear, you can count on storms.
But you can also count on the presence & prayers of Christ in the midst of them.
Storms of life come at us all. Jesus faced them & so did his disciples. Many times we create our own storms. A vital factor in any storm is communication, which raises the question, “What does Jesus do when we are facing the sometimes crashing & chaotic times of life?” Today we consider the unshakeable hope in the promise that
Jesus is praying for us when we face life’s intense struggles as outlined in today’s key scripture Romans 8:34.
Jesus himself faced storms of all kinds – his family thought he was out of his mind (Mark 3:21) – his closest friends deserted him after his arrest (Mark 14:50) – His own people rejected him (Luke 23:20,21). His followers faced them too – Peter & John were put in jail for proclaiming His message (Acts 4:3) – Stephen was put todeath for his belief in Christ (Act 7:57) – Paul & Silas were beaten & imprisoned for sharing the Gospel (Acts16:22) – The early church was persecuted (Acts 8:1).
Jesus continues to intercede for us before the Father as we live out our days. In John 17 Jesus prayed for his disciples & all his followers. Two passages that describes Jesus’ interceding for us are Hebrews 7:25
“Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them” & 1 Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God & one mediator before God & mankind, the man Christ Jesus”
